As competition for people's time and recreational dollar increases, we've experienced challenges with member retention. This year, we tried telemarketing for the first time with Graven, Austin & Drake. We started with a small test group and were amazed with the results. We finished the year by calling a larger group of expired members and the results were outstanding.We experienced growth within our membership in a year when horse ownership has declined considerably. We are proud to say that GAD got its start in direct-to-church sales. We have grown to be one of the most well-known marketing organizations within the religious market. From 1 client and 3 agents to an entire sales floor dedicated to church marketing, we are proud of the expertise we have achieved in this arena.

Since we have gained such success in sales to churches, growing into the Non-Profit sector was natural gravitation for GAD. By mixing our agents natural service-orientation, with the sales skills they've acquired while at GAD, we have been able to help many schools and hospitals achieve a much stronger response from their respective audiences.

I needed a better method for reaching out to past donors, and, when a former colleague contacted me to let me know that he had formed a company to conduct phone solicitations, I agreed to let his company take over our phonathon. I was more than a little nervous about outsourcing this project and insisted that I be permitted to draft the script for his callers. I also plantedĀ names of several close friends in the list that I provided, so that could ask their opinions of how the calls were conducted. The company charged an hourly rate for calling, and all donations came directly from the donors to our hospital. I also retained the right to pull the plug on the campaign at any time. Donations through the phonathon that first year were over $120,000 and tripled our previous phonathon effort.
